Deputy President Kithure Kindiki is planning to reach out opposition leader Kalonzo Musyoka, promising to engage him in a bid to ease political tensions in the Eastern region.
“Between me and that other guy, who is Kalonzo's true brother? Who can direct Kalonzo on the right path and not mislead him into politics of empty rhetoric without any meaningful development for the people of Ukambani and Kenya?” Kindiki asked the crowd.
He assured residents that he would not mislead Musyoka, suggesting that the Wiper leader had been derailed by other opposition figures.
“Kalonzo is my neighbour. He is my brother..He is a lawyer like me. Therefore, I cannot lead him into a ditch. I will look for him, talk to him, and we will eventually agree.”
“I respect Kalonzo; that is why you'll not hear me abusing or demeaning him. He is my brother...” said the DP to loud applause.
Leaders accompanying the Deputy President and members of the public voiced support for the move, urging Kindiki to pursue dialogue with Musyoka for the region’s development.
The DP also took aim at tribal politics, describing it as “foolish politics,” and urging Kenyans to embrace unity.
“We don’t want to waste time with people who have politics of the tribe. Where will this tribe take you? Some of our people live in Mombasa, Lamu, Garissa, Eldoret, Taveta, and Hola…that is their home,” he added.

No Taxes
He further noted the government’s commitment to tackling corruption and tax evasion, rather than overburdening citizens with new taxes.
“We have not put a single cent anywhere. There is no new taxation. As it was, that is what it will be. We are not adding any new taxes,” he stated.
Kindiki was speaking on Thursday during an Economic Empowerment Programme in Mutomo, Kitui where he said the initiative seeks to foster unity in the Ukambani region.
