Barasa unveils over 60 ECDE projects to boost early learning in Kakamega

Kakamega Governor Fernandes Barasa has put in place efforts to create a safe, child-friendly learning environments across the region.

He said his government will offer unwavering commitment to early childhood development and underscored the importance of quality education in shaping the future of the county.

Speaking during a developmental tour of Ikolomani Sub-County, Barasa highlighted progress in various Early Childhood Development Education (ECDE) projects.

“We are committed to giving our children a strong start in life by investing in safe and conducive learning spaces,” said the governor.

He said the newly constructed Ikhulili ECDE Centre in Ikolamani is now complete, while the Irechelo ECDE Centre is already operational.

Barasa said construction work is ongoing at Shichinji ECDE Centre and is part of a broader initiative that includes over 60 ECDE projects currently at various stages of completion countywide.

“These projects are a testament to our belief that every child in Kakamega deserves a nurturing environment to begin their educational journey,” Governor Barasa emphasized.

“We are not only building classrooms; we are building the future of this county.”

The county government has prioritized ECDE as a critical pillar in its education agenda, ensuring that learning facilities are equipped with child-friendly furniture, clean water, and modern sanitation.

He said the move aligns with the national vision of promoting development from the earliest stages of a child’s life.

Parents and local leaders have lauded the county’s efforts, noting the positive impact on school enrolment and children’s morale.

“Our children now have a dignified place to learn, and this has motivated both learners and teachers,” said one of the residents.

Governor Barasa assured residents that his administration will continue to invest in the education sector to bridge gaps and enhance equal opportunities for all children regardless of their location.
