Bomet County is in mourning following the death of the County Chief Officer Finance, CPA Erick Chepkwony.
The cause of his death is yet to be established.
Reports indicate that he collapsed and passed on Wednesday evening in Nairobi.
Until his death, he also served as Kapset tea factory director and national vice chairman of the Kenya Tea Development Agency (KTDA).
He was first appointed as the chief officer for Cooperatives in December 2022 before being moved to that of Public Works and subsequently Finance in September 2023, a position he held until his death.
Bomet Governor Hillary Barchok, in his condolence message, expressed sorrow following the death of Chepkwony.
“My heart goes out to his family, the people of Bomet, and the KTDA, as we come to terms with the devastating news,” Barchok said.
Emurua Dikiir MP Johanna Ngeno termed the death of Chepkwony a heavy blow to the people of Bomet, given the vibrant spirit and dedication he displayed as a leader.
Bomet Woman Representative Linet Chepkorir said she was deeply saddened to learn of the passing of Chepkwony.
"His tireless efforts in county leadership and the tea sector helped uplift countless lives across Bomet and beyond,” she stated.
Former Konoin MP Julius Kones said Chepkwony was a committed leader, a pillar in agricultural development, and a passionate advocate for farmers’ welfare.
