Governor Anyang’ Nyong’o has expressed gratitude following the recent visit by President William Ruto and Azimio leader Raila Odinga to Kisumu County.
The governor listed some of the transformational projects commissioned by the President, including the Makasembo Affordable Housing Project – Phase 1, the Lake Victoria Marina Affordable Housing Project at Kirembe, and the groundbreaking ceremony for Makasembo Affordable Housing Project – Phase 3.
“We are also grateful to Rt Hon. Raila Odinga for his generous donation of five acres of land for the affordable housing project,” Nyong’o stated.
He described the donation as a profound testament to the former Prime Minister’s unwavering belief that every Kenyan deserves decent and affordable shelter, adding that it signals his support for the government’s housing agenda.
“Our appreciation further extends to President Ruto for the broad portfolio of development his administration has initiated in Kisumu County, many of which are progressing steadily towards completion,” Governor Nyong’o added.
The governor affirmed the county’s wholehearted support for President Ruto and Hon. Raila Odinga’s decision to work together. He emphasised that Kisumu County stands firmly behind the vision outlined in the recently signed MoU that underpins the broad-based government.
“We celebrate the peace, unity, and renewed sense of hope that this partnership has inspired across the country. We call upon all Kenyans to rally behind this vision for a stronger, more inclusive Kenya,” Nyong’o said.
The governor also assured President Ruto that he is always welcome in Kisumu, and encouraged both the Head of State and the former Prime Minister to continue their joint tours across the country.
He further highlighted major development projects nearing completion, including the Kabonyo Regional Fisheries and Aquaculture Service and Training Centre of Excellence in Nyando Sub-County. Once complete, the facility will have the capacity to produce 28 million fingerlings annually.
Additionally, the new Air Traffic Control (ATC) tower at Kisumu International Airport is 80 per cent complete, marking a major milestone in enhancing air traffic capacity in the western region. The tarmacking of the Mamboleo–Miwani road is also underway, and is expected to unlock trade and mobility across the region.
