Siaya County receives Sh50 million medical supplies

Siaya County Government's department of Health has received consignment of pharmaceuticals and non-pharmaceutical supplies from the Kenya Medical Supplies Authority-KEMSA.

The supplies valued at Sh50 million are for the fourth quarter.

The delivery of the supplies commenced last week as part of an effort to ensure direct distribution to public health hospitals, health centres, and dispensaries. 

The supplies were received by the County Executive for Health, Dr Martin K'Onyango, and Chief Officer Samuel Omondi at the Siaya County Referral Hospital (SCRH).

The consignment includes essential items such as bandages, needles, syringes, cotton wool, laboratory reagents, and pharmaceuticals encompassing antibiotics, antidiabetics, antihypertensives, infusions, anti-snake venoms, and anti-rabies medications, among other essential medical and Medicine supplies.

"These supplies are intended to supplement existing stocks. They are projected to sustain the county's needs for the next three months (May-July)," said K'Onyango

He further encouraged the public to confidently seek treatment at public health facilities.

"We are also urging the facilities receiving these supplies to diligently safeguard the supplies against pilferage. They must ensure equitable access to essential medicines and medical supplies for all citizens," he appealed.

K'Onyango also conducted a site visit to the Siaya County Referral Hospital (SCRH) to evaluate the ongoing renovations within the Emergency Department.

The revitalization project, which commenced eleven weeks ago, aims to enhance patient experience during emergency care delivery. 

"Completion of the renovation is projected for the end of May 2025, culminating in an official launch ceremony," he said.

The assessment highlights the commitment to delivering improved healthcare infrastructure for the residents of Siaya County and if the ongoing works adhere to the required standards.
