A 45-year-old woman has been arrested in connection with the death of veteran gynaecologist Dr Job Obwaka.

Police sources who spoke to The Standard said Beatrice Wangare was arrested on Saturday morning by detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations and taken to Kilimani Police Station where she was questioned about her relationship with the deceased.

Preliminary investigations indicate the two had known each other for several years.

According to a police report seen by The Standard, Dr Obwaka was rushed to Nairobi Hospital by ambulance at about 7pm after collapsing in Kitengela, where he had gone on personal errands in the company of Wangare, believed to be his business partner.

"National Police Service officers visited the facility where it was established that the deceased had a history of medical conditions, though the actual cause of death is yet to be established. The scene was documented and processed," the report says.

The Nairobi Hospital director died on the way to the hospital and was pronounced dead on arrival, according to his son, Nicholas Obwaka, who spoke to The Standard on Friday night.

The case has been handed over to homicide detectives, who are set to begin investigations.

The body of the late Dr Obwaka has been moved to Lee funeral home awaiting a post-mortem which is expected to be conducted tomorrow, according to the family.
