Mudavadi heads to Morocco for bilateral talks, embassy opening

Prime Cabinet Secretary Musalia Mudavadi is set to hold bilateral talks and sign several memoranda of understanding with Morocco during a visit from Sunday, May 25, to Tuesday, May 27.

According to his Director of Press Service, the visit aims to deepen diplomatic and economic ties between Kenya and Morocco.

A key focus will be trade negotiations, with Kenya seeking to improve its trade balance, which currently favors Morocco.

“During his trip, Mudavadi will seek to push for negotiations to see Kenya improve the balance of trade, which is currently in favour of Morocco,” a statement dated Saturday, May 24 read in part.

Mudavadi is also scheduled to meet Moroccan Prime Minister Aziz Akhannouch for bilateral discussions.

The agenda includes the official opening of Kenya’s embassy in Rabat, which began operations in December 2023. The Office of the Prime Cabinet Secretary said the move is part of efforts to strengthen diplomatic ties established between the two countries in 1965.

“Several MOUs are proposed to be signed during the visit, including an MoU on Housing, an MoU between the Foreign Service Academy and the Diplomatic Academy in Morocco, among others.”

The Morocco visit follows Mudavadi’s recent trip to the United States earlier this month, which marked a major diplomatic engagement between Kenya and the US since President Donald Trump’s re-election.
