'Crystal ball' Professor Mutua failed to anticipate own future in KK government

My heart goes out to Makau Mutua, a distinguished professor at a fancy university in the Yues, who was trolled in the latter part of the week for joining Prezzo Bill Ruto’s discredited kafment as an advisor for this and that.

Many Kenyans are appalled that the good prof, who writes kizungu mingi every Sunday under the mantra of “Crystal Ball,” in which he analyses local politics with predictive rigour, did not anticipate his own future working for the Zakayo administration!

On the contrary, he dedicated acres of space to chastise the very idea of such a possibility. And since the internet never forgets, those articles have been swirling around the cyberspace as if to mock him: eat your words and forever keep your peace!

I have a different view. First off, I am surprised at how short Double M appears in that picture with the Head State. No, it’s not body-shaming, otherwise I’d have dismissed him as jamaa fupi round. He is not. He’s an erudite academic with the enormously insightful Crystal Ball.

Given his modest height, the good professor was understandably hampered from seeing the “passing cloud,” that Governor James Orengo spotted swirling around the Kenya Kwanza administration.

Rather, it might be helpful to probe the possible motivations for Makau’s move. My malformed “crystal ball” thinks he will offer that only fools don’t change their minds and that this is a strategic move to reform a crooked administration from inside.

In any case, he might add, even though he swore by the wizards of Kitui that he would only collaborate with Zakayo over his dead body, as a Kenyan-American with pan-African credentials, he transcends our petty politics, blah blah blah.
