IPOA launches probe into MP Ong'ondo's murder as DCI investigates civilian involvement

The Independent Police Oversight Authority (IPOA) has launched independent investigations to determine whether any police officer was involved in the fatal shooting of Kasipul Member of Parliament, Charles Ong'ondo Were.

Interior Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen, while addressing the press on Thursday afternoon, confirmed that detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) are simultaneously probing the possible involvement of civilians in the gruesome murder that occurred Wednesday night along Ngong Road near City Mortuary.

"The DCI has already commenced investigations to establish whether any civilian, including those in positions of authority or from Kasipul, played a role in the killing," said CS Murkomen.

He affirmed that anyone found culpable, whether civilian or officer, would face the full force of the law.

Ong'onda was reportedly gunned down by two assailants on a motorcycle. Police have yet to establish the motive behind the attack.

In a related development, Murkomen visited injured police officers receiving treatment at Nairobi West Hospital, including one who was wounded while on duty in Haiti.

"They are recovering well and are out of danger. We remain committed to providing our officers with the best possible medical care," Murkomen assured.
