The race at both ends of the SportPesa Premier League (SPL) table takes centre stage today as four crucial matches headline the midweek round, with teams chasing very different targets as the season nears its end.
With just four matches left, leaders Gor Mahia appear firmly on course for the title, sitting top with 64 points, nine ahead of second-placed AFC Leopards, who still have a game in hand.

While Gor Mahia are not in midweek action, the focus shifts to how the chasing pack and relegation-threatened sides respond under pressure.
Third-placed Kenya Police, on 48 points, will host Murang’a Seal at Police Sacco Stadium knowing victory could strengthen their grip on a top-three finish.
Police have been inconsistent this season, but a late surge has seen them rise to the top three. They now face a Murang’a side sitting 11th with 38 points, a position that is not entirely safe.
Murang’a Seal will be desperate to pull further away from the danger zone, and even a point away from home could prove valuable.
At Kwale Stadium, Bandari take on Posta Rangers in a match that carries weight for both sides for different reasons. Bandari are 10th with 39 points and still have an outside chance of pushing into the top eight.
However, Posta Rangers, placed 13th with 32 points, are firmly in the relegation conversation. A loss here would leave them vulnerable heading into the final stretch, making this a must-win encounter for the mailmen.
Another key fixture sees APS Bomet host KCB at Green Stadium in Kericho. KCB, seventh on 41 points, are pushing to finish strongly in the top half and possibly break into the top five.
APS Bomet, however, sit 14th with 31 points and are just above the relegation battle. They need points quickly to avoid slipping into the survival mix, especially with teams below them fighting hard.
The final match of the day pits Nairobi United against Tusker at Nyayo Stadium. Nairobi United, sixth with 45 points, are still chasing a strong finish in the top five and could even climb higher with consistent results.
Tusker, on the other hand, are eighth with 41 points and remain within touching distance of the upper positions. This clash is evenly balanced, with both sides eager to end the season on a high.
At the bottom of the table, the pressure continues to mount despite Sofapaka’s confirmed relegation after a poor campaign that has seen them collect a paltry 18 points.
Their exit leaves teams like Bidco United (24 points) and Kariobangi Sharks (30 points) fighting to avoid joining them. Although they are not in action, results from these fixtures could directly impact their survival hopes.
With the title race narrowing to Gor Mahia and AFC Leopards, attention is increasingly shifting to battles for positions just below them and the intense fight to avoid relegation.
