The Athletics Integrity Unit(AIU) has banned Kenyan Marathoner Brimin Misoi Kipkorir for allegations of violating anti-doping rules.
In a statement released by AIU on April 1, the 35-year-old athlete has been banned for five years after he tested positive for erythropoietin and furosemide.
“The AIU confirms by this decision the following consequences for a first Anti-Doping Rule Violation: a period of Ineligibility of five years commencing on 17 February 2025 and disqualification of the Athlete’s results since 22 November 2024, with all resulting Consequences, including the forfeiture of any medals, titles, awards, points, prizes, prize money and appearance money,” stated AIU.
The probe started in November 2024 when Korir submitted a urine sample in Kaptagat, which was later taken to the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) in Switzerland.
Laboratory results revealed that the urine sample contained the prohibited substance furosemide.
Following the results, AIU issued Kipkorir with a notice of allegations, inviting him to give explanations before January 6, 2025, which he declined.

Further analysis done on the original sample on February 4 revealed the presence of erythropoietin.
The AIU again wrote to the athlete, informing him of the news development on anti-doping allegations.
Kipkorir replied to AIU by email, accepting the two-year ban and stating that “I accept the terms,”.
“On 25 February 2025, the Athlete confirmed that he admitted the Anti-Doping Rule Violations and accepted the asserted period of Ineligibility of six (6) years. The Athlete shall, therefore, receive a one-year reduction in the asserted period of Ineligibility pursuant to Rule based on an early admission and acceptance of sanction, ”added AIU.
However, the Anti-Doping Agency of Kenya holds the right to appeal the decision to the Court of Arbitration for Sport in Lausanne, Switzerland.
The ban has been imposed on Kipkorir and other athletes, including Ethiopian Alemtsehay Asefa, for two years, while Goodness Iredia of Nigeria has been prohibited for three years.
