Energy Cabinet Secretary Opiyo Wandayi and a section of leaders from Nyanza region are now calling for the region to support President William Ruto unconditionally, despite ODM leaders setting conditions.

According to the CS, once they have agreed that they are supporting President Ruto, they must do so unconditionally and on the basis of mutual interest.

He said that by doing so, they stood a chance of gaining more as a people.

“We are making a resolution that going forward, we are behind President Ruto,” CS Wandayi said.

The CS who was speaking at Karabare area in Rongo Sub-County, Migori County during the launch of a rural electrification project where he was hosted by Rongo MP Paul Abuor highlighted that there was very little time left for a third force to emerge from Nyanza region.

According to the CS, there were only two formations, one that was led by President Ruto and the other one by former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua and his team.

“There is no one who can come out at this time, vie for presidency and succeed. Therefore, we have to accept that there are only two formations. There is no room for a third force. No one should cheat you. So, you are either with president Ruto or ‘Wamunyoro’,” CS Wandayi remarked.

‎He stressed the need for them to join hands and support President Ruto for him to get a second term.

CS Wandayi pointed out that they would remain in the broad-based government where the late former Prime Minister Raila Odinga left them.

He told ODM and UDA leaders to work together if they are genuinely supporting president Ruto’s second term bid.

“I will be at the forefront to united all those people. We don’t want division,” CS Wandayi said.

He called on the leaders to work together and ensure that President Ruto gets more votes from Nyanza region.

The CS’s sentiments were echoed by Rongo MP Paul Abuor, Uriri MP Mark Nyamita and former non-executive chairperson of the Lake Victoria South Water Works Development Agency Odoyo Owidi who rallied support for President Ruto.

Abuor outlined the projects President Ruto was carrying out in his Constituency saying that he deserved a second term.

“Our people need to vote for President Ruto’s second term considering the things he has done,” Abuor said.

MP Nyamita said that the unity of the Luo would only be destroyed if anyone told them to leave the government.

“Our division as a people is when someone tells us to go back to the streets where we have suffered and lost our children,” Nyamita stated.

Owidi said they have decided that we are going to support president Ruto without conditions.

He pointed out that there were people who were giving President Ruto conditions.

Their sentiments come at a time when the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) leaders among them Siaya Governor Oburu Odinga and Migori Senator Eddy Oketch are demanding that terms be set lest they get shortchanged like in the previous years.

During the closing ceremony of the Piny Luo Celebrations on December 17 at Rongo University grounds, Siaya Governor James Orengo told President Ruto who was present as the chief guest, said the community has to set working terms.

“We have to set terms,” Governor Orengo told president Ruto.

‎According to Governor Orengo, they must set terms because they had been cheated before and did not want a repeat of the same.

Senator Oketch pointed out that as a community, there were terms that must be set.

“I can assure you that going to 2027, we cannot talk about terms that is not economic empowerment of our people,” Oketch said.
