Man hangs himself after denied chance to bury wife

A 39-year-old man has allegedly committed suicide after he was denied the chance of burying his wife who died three weeks ago.

Preliminary reports indicate that the man was involved in a burial dispute with another man who also claimed to be the woman’s husband.

It is said that after seeking for the matter to be resolved by a chief, it was resolved that the other man who was discovered to be the woman’s first husband with whom they had sired three children be given the rights to inter her body.

Both of them had paid dowry for the woman.

Aggrieved by the decision that he would not be able to inter his wife's body at his home or even attend her burial, the man threatened that he would commit suicide, something that made close relatives keep him in watch.

Despite the family’s efforts to ensure that the man does not make good his threats, he was found to have committed suicide on Monday morning.

According to police reports, his body was found dangling from the roof of his bedroom.

Rongo Sub-County Police Commander Salim Fundi who confirmed that the man was found to have committed suicide at Nyadhiwa village in Kodero Bara Sub-Location.

“He did not leave behind a suicide note. We have launched our investigations into the incident,” Mr. Fundi said.

According to Fundi, the man used a sisal rope to hang himself. The deceased is said to have been thrown into depression after the death of his wife.

He had lived together with the woman for seven years and had two children together.

His body was taken to Rosewood mortuary awaiting autopsy.

Fundi urged residents to seek for help and share their problems with the people they trust for solution instead of committing suicide.
