At least 20 people have been injured, five of them seriously, following an early morning crash involving two passenger buses and two trailers at the Tunnel area along the Londiani Junction–Muhuroni road.
The accident occurred at around 5:30 a.m. when a Simba Coach bus collided with a Dreamliner bus, both travelling from Mombasa towards Muhoroni.
First responders from the Kenya Red Cross Society, alongside police and local volunteers, led rescue efforts at the scene, evacuating the injured and administering first aid.
Preliminary police reports indicate the Simba Coach rammed into the Dreamliner bus after it slowed down behind a truck, triggering a chain collision that also involved two trailers.
Witnesses said several passengers were trapped in the wreckage, prompting a swift rescue operation.

The injured were rushed to Fort Ternan Sub-County Hospital for treatment, with two critically injured patients later referred to Kericho County Referral Hospital for specialised care.
The two buses were carrying a total of 66 passengers at the time of the crash.
Wreckage from the vehicles was towed to Fort Ternan Police Station as traffic officers launched investigations into the cause of the accident.
Authorities suspect speeding and failure to maintain a safe distance may have contributed to the crash.
The Tunnel area along the Londiani–Muhuroni stretch is considered a high-risk zone due to sharp bends and heavy traffic.
