The Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) has launched a comprehensive probe into the tragic road accident that claimed the life of former Lugari Member of Parliament Cyrus Jirongo.
The incident occurred in the early hours of Saturday, December 13, along the Nakuru-Nairobi Highway at Karai.
"The collision occurred at approximately 02:19am resulting in a head-on impact that pushed the deceased’s vehicle about 25 metres away from the point of impact, while the PSV bus came to a stop approximately 50 metres away," the DCI stated.
The intensive investigations comes after a CCTV footage from the Eagol Petrol Station near the scene was recovered. The footage provides a minute-by-minute account of the final moments before the crash.
"At 02:18:40 a.m, the deceased drove into the petrol station from the Nairobi direction but did not fuel," said DCI in a statement issued by head of communication John Marete.

According to the DCI, at 02:19:10 am, Jirongo stopped at the station’s exit and, at 02:19:19 am, made a right turn, driving back towards the Nairobi direction. At 02:19:25 am, the CCTV captured the PSV bus ramming into his Mercedes Benz.
The driver of the bus, identified as Tyrus Kamau Githinji, has so far been interrogated by homicide detectives. He had initially recorded a statement at the Naivasha Traffic Base following the accident.
"Githinji is out on cash bail pending further investigations into the offence of causing death by dangerous driving," said Marete, adding that Kamau is required to report back to the traffic base on December 22.
As part of the widening investigation, detectives are piecing together Jirongo’s movements prior to the accident.
This includes recording statements from individuals he had interacted with on the fateful night, notably those present during a meeting at Karen Oasis Bar and Restaurant, Nairobi.
Meanwhile, the family of the deceased have confirmed that the autopsy will be done today.
Speaking to The Standard, funeral committee chairman Philip Kisia said a team led by three experts will conduct the post-mortem on Jirongo's body to ascertain any factors leading to his demise.
"We are ready for it. The experts are from government, the family and the clan and friends," said Kisia.
Jirongo's son, Jake Jirongo also confirmed the development saying the post-mortem will put to rest a lot of speculation about his father's death.
"We are eager to finalise this matter and lay dad to rest," said Jake.
