Mystery surrounds the whereabouts of a pastor who was abducted alongside his driver along the Kitale-Eldoret highway.

Pastor Meshack Orwa of a Migori-based Ministry of Holiness and Repentance church has been missing since Saturday.

In the company of Duncan Opondo, the cleric was returning home from Kitale where they had spent two weeks attending a religious function when they were ambushed near Moi’s Bridge shopping centre in Soy Sub-County

According to Opondo, their Subaru Forester vehicle was intercepted at around 5:30 pm by another saloon car whose armed occupants ordered them out. They were then bundled into the boot of their car, which sped off.

Opondo told police he was dropped in a bush at around 3 am from where he found his way to the main road. On inquiry about the locality, he was told it was in Nandi Hills.

The man boarded a matatu back to Migori where he reported the matter before being referred back to Moi’s Bridge to file a similar report. By the time Opondo made the report, the pastor’s phone had been switched off and the car was missing.

Migori County Police Commander Francis Nguli said he was not aware of the matter.

“I don’t have facts about the incident,” said the police chief.

Meanwhile, at Kasarani Police Station, a man allegedly died by suicide at the staff quarters where he was being hosted.

Mark Kipkemboi, 24, was staying with his friend Corporal Ignatius Marangu. Details about the man’s death were scanty but police said the body was found hanging from the ceiling of the staircase on the second floor.
