Tana River has announced that 150 more medical staff will be hired to address shortages in the health department.

Addressing 50 recently hired medical staff during their orientation, Governor Dhadho Godhana observed that staff shortages in the county health facilities have been a nagging concern, saying he was determined to end it.

"We hired you recently, and you will be posted to various facilities in the county to serve our people. We will soon hire an additional 150 to end the shortage problem. I urge you to serve the people diligently and with dignity. Service delivery must be enhanced to the people of Tana River," he stated.

He said his government was taking a bold step to improve service delivery in all the departments.

"In health, we have made major improvements in personnel and equipment. We have reduced referrals to Garissa, Lamu, Malindi and Mombasa to a bare minimum because now, we can offer what they offer. We are on the path of major transformation not only in health but all other departments," he said.

The governor urged all medical and other county staff to serve the people with re-dedicated zeal, adding that the people's expectations must be met.

Meanwhile, Governor Godhana has been recognised by a continental body for his outstanding contribution to Africa's development and exceptional leadership.

He was feted with a recognition certificate at a colourful ceremony in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, where he was represented by the acting County Secretary, Ms Mwanajuma Hiribae.

During a handing-over ceremony to the recipient yesterday, Godhana appreciated the recognition and said it was for the people of Tana River.

"This recognition and honour are not for me, but for the great people of the great County of Tana River," he said.

He said the award should serve to motivate all county leaders at their various levels to work even harder and achieve more in the line of service delivery to the people.
The award given by the African Development Conference outlined the areas in which the governor excelled.

"This certificate is awarded to HE Prof Dhadho Gadddae Godhana, Governor of the County of Tana River.

"This is in recognition of your outstanding personality in governance across Africa, outstanding contributions to Africa's development, showcasing exceptional leadership and vision. Your efforts have made a profound impact on the lives of countless individuals and communities across the continent. Africa is proud of you."
